One on each side of the pit, these springs keep the carpet belt tight. Check for separation between coils, especially at ends where the hooks bend out from the coil and always replace these springs in pairs. Some mechanics find it easier to stretch the spring into place on the back post using a 2' length of 1/2" dia. conduit as a lever.
